JIM ROONEY RETURNS TO GALWAY
Jim Rooney returns to Galway Friday, Oct. 30, to play a special gig at the Crane Bar as part of their 25th anniversary series. Jim is well known for his work as a record producer for John Prine, Nanci Griffith, Iris DeMent and Hal Ketchum as well as Sean Keane, The Lee Valley String Band and Chris Meehan & His Redneck Friends. Jim will be joined by Lee Valley band members Mick Daly and Brendan Butler and Ciaran Tourish, formerly of Altan, for a great night of Americana, Country and Bluegrass songs and stories.

This trio play a spellbinding set of both traditional and self-penned compositions of instrumental music and song. All three are prolific composers and are highly skilled musicians. Their concerts feature a delightful mix of soulful songs, airs and waltzes as well as lively traditional dance tunes.

I have known Paddy for over 40 years and I feel privileged to have called him my friend. I was also fortunate to have played music with him, especially our annual gathering at the Willie Clancy week. I was also lucky to tour with Paddy on a couple of occasions.  They were exciting and epic adventures.
Paddy was a bright intelligent man,engaging company and ever a gentleman. He was one of the greatest musicians this country has ever produced across all genres. His influence on the revival of interest on Uileann Piping cannot be overstated.
His annual visits to the Crane Bar over 25 years were always greeted with great excitement and enthusiasm. We had wonderful nights and times in the Crane with Paddy down through the years.
I hope there is a piper’s heaven and he gets to meet up with the Dorans and all the lads. I will miss you old friend.

Welcome to the Crane Bar

The Crane Bar on Sea Road is one of Galway’s best known traditional music pubs. It has long been a haunt of those who love to play and those who love to listen to them. Situated in the ‘Small Crane’ Square, The Crane Bar offers music nightly both upstairs and down.
Upstairs at The Crane Bar is a much loved venue, seating 70 in an intimate and relaxed atmosphere remarked on by both performers and audiences alike.

Concerts here range from singer/songwriters to traditional to roots music. Known far and wide as ‘The Listeners Club’, upstairs at The Crane Bar has been played in by the best known artists in the business as well as up and coming new talents.
This year The Crane Bar’s Listeners Club has hosted more gigs than ever before and there’s an exciting programme in the offing for the coming year..

Live Traditional Irish Music Every Night at the Crane Bar

Downstairs at The Crane Bar is the ‘local’, one of the few remaining authentic traditional bars with live sessions nightly, and an atmosphere only an Irish ‘local’ can create. Try real tradition at The Crane Bar.

Venue holds between 50 and 70 normally. The room is wide with the stage and mix positions at opposite sides of the main part of the room (short sides).
